Grocery Pricelists

One of the best tools I use to slash my grocery bills is using a store-comparison price list. It takes a little time to get started but I get a lot of use out of it. I simply made tables in a word processing program. I was able to make separate tables for different areas: dairy, baking goods, frozen, breads & cereals, etc.

Then it was just a matter of filling in the information. I compare three stores - Aldi, Walmart, and Target - on my list. I carry the list in my coupon organizer so it is always with me. As I shop I take notes of products, along with their prices and size. That allows me to figure out exactly which store has the cheapest price per ounce/pound.

I continually update the list on my computer. I enter the information and once I figure out the best price, I change that font to red and bold. That way I can tell at a glance which store has the best prices for the items on my shopping list. I have been surprised by some of what I have found - a lot of my old great deals weren't deals at all!

There are some websites that offer price comparisons for stores in specific areas. Those may be an option for you but I know I have found more accuracy in visiting the stores myself.

Do you use a price list? How do you organize and use the information?
